The Commission has previously granted a temporary exemption under section 55 of the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA) to the South Australian Minister for Transport, TransAdelaide and the South Australian Passenger Transport Board from the operation of section 24 of the DDA, specifically in relation to the lack of access for people who use a wheelchair to existing buses.

The Commission has considered the application from Hoyts Corporation, Greater Union Organisation, Village Cinemas and Reading Cinemas for temporary exemption under section 55 of the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 ( the DDA) in relation to the provision of captions and audio description in cinemas operated by the applicants.

3. What would be the set up cost of providing both captions and audio description in any one screen? Answer - The set up cost will vary depending on the amount of work required to install the new equipment. I can advise that the equipment (hardware alone) will be approximately $30,000 per screen.
