The position holder will: Manage complex relationships across the Indigenous community, corporate, industry and government sectors, and work collegiately and in partnership with such stakeholders. Have excellent policy knowledge and will be proactive and responsive to highly complex problems. Demonstrate excellent writing skills, undertake quality research, and deliver evidence-based material of a publishable standard. Work collegiately with other teams across the Commission, as well as other key projects such as the Wiyi Yani U Thangani (Womens Voices) Project, the Close the Gap Campaign, and the Native Title Project. DUTIES: Provide high quality advice to the Social Justice Commissioner, the Director, and the Commission more generally in relation to Indigenous issues as required. Contribute to the design and delivery of the Commissions project work on Stage Two of the Wiyi Yani U Thangani (Womens Voices) project. Develop and maintain a range of key stakeholder relationships, particularly within government and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and organisations. Analyse complex issues and undertake quality research, as well as prepare written materials that are evidence based, succinct and persuasive. Prepare speeches and submissions in collaboration with other staff and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner. Work collegiately with senior management staff at the Commission. Other duties consistent with the above as directed. SELECTION CRITERIA: Demonstrated experience in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities, including communicating in a culturally competent manner, and an understanding of the human rights issues facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in contemporary Australia. Demonstrated management ability including a capacity for leadership and experience in managing staff and resources and responding flexibly to changing work demands. A demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively, including the requirement for proper negotiation and consultation, with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples on matters relevant to the delivery of the Government's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander development policies. High level conceptual, analytical, strategic thinking and problem-solving skills with an innovative and creative approach to resolving issues and positively contributing to reform. Demonstrated strong ability in research, analysis, and strategy development, including legal and policy analysis. Demonstrated writing ability, including the production of academic research and/or policy documents and the drafting of speeches and other public relations materials.
