Undertake legal and policy research using a range of research tools on domestic and international human rights issues and draft associated legal documentation. Provide strategic legal and policy advice (oral and written) to the President relating to domestic and international human rights issues. Critically analyse and synthesise submissions and other research materials to distil key information. Liaise with policy and legal teams and other areas of the Commission concerning the Presidents input into major projects and activities. Provide advice and support in relation to the Presidents participation in high level domestic, regional and international fora. Undertake liaison and networking to support the Presidents relationships with key domestic and international stakeholders. Undertake administrative and support tasks associated with all above activities, in liaison with the Presidents Executive Assistant. Other duties consistent with the above as directed. SELECTION CRITERIA: Demonstrated legal research ability and analytical skills of a high order and demonstrated ability to produce accurate, clear legal and policy papers, briefing materials and correspondence in a timely and efficient manner. Excellent organisational skills including the ability to work with minimal supervision, in a small team environment, to set priorities and to meet deadlines. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including (a) the ability to liaise with politicians, senior officials, members of the legal profession, community groups and high level overseas officials; and (b) a proven ability to write to a publishable standard. A high level of political awareness and an ability to think strategically in dealing with complex human rights issues. A high level understanding of international human rights issues and frameworks and the role of Australia and the 鱨վ within that. Demonstrated effective relationship management and presentation skills and experience in these areas across a variety of sectors/audiences.
