Provide and coordinate complex policy advice on human rights and sexual orientation and gender identity issues. Undertake a range of projects and/or complex investigations, including analysing and evaluating information and preparing associated reports, submissions and publications. Represent the Commission at meetings, conferences and seminars. Draft complex correspondence and speeches. Liaise with relevant departments, agencies and non-government organisations to implement the Commissions programs. Other duties consistent with the above as directed. SELECTION CRITERIA: A sophisticated understanding of contemporary human rights issues in Australia, with particular knowledge of, or experience in, sexual orientation and gender identity issues. Proven capacity for policy development and provision of high level policy advice. Sound research skills and a demonstrated analytical ability of a high order. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including: the ability to liaise with politicians, senior officials, members of the legal profession, community groups and the general public; and a proven ability to write to a publishable standard. A demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision, set priorities, to meet deadlines and respond flexibly to changing work demands. Demonstrated project management and a capacity to supervise and motivate staff.
