DUTIES: Under the broad direction of the Director, undertake a range of duties including: Provide accurate and timely advice to the Director, the Disability Discrimination Commissioner (the Commissioner), and the Commission more generally, in relation to disability rights and discrimination. Advise on and contribute to the conduct of research, policy development and planning activities on disability related subject matter areas. Contribute to and produce high quality written work including: discussion papers speeches briefs submissions reports. Contribute to specific disability rights projects as identified by the Commissioner and Director. Work collegiately with internal stakeholders across the Commission to contribute to the strategic goals and key priorities of the Commission. Where relevant, supervise staff and interns in the conduct of research, preparation of materials and undertaking projects. Attend consultative and other meetings, conferences and seminars and represent the Commission (where required).. Other duties consistent with the above as directed. SELECTION CRITERIA Candidates with lived experience of disability will be highly regarded. Demonstrated specialist knowledge and understanding of disability, disability sector issues and human rights issues. Well-developed communication skills including a demonstrated ability to communicate confidently, persuasively, sensitively and articulately on matters relevant to the delivery of the Commissioners term goals and the Commissions strategic priorities, both in person and in writing. Ability to supervise staff and resources effectively (where required), contribute to Commission wide activities and respond flexibly to changing work demands. Demonstrated capacity for sound judgement and creative problem solving including ability to consider and promote Commission wide benefits of activities. Demonstrated high proficiency in conducting and analysing research, while working to meet tight deadlines. Demonstrated experience in project management, stakeholder engagement, relationship management and organisational and logistical support for activities. DESIRABLE A knowledge of issues related to accessible housing is desirable but not essential.
