Dear Graeme, Re: Kendall Airlines It has recently come to my attention that the above mentioned, Kendall Airlines, have lodged an application with the Commission. As a person with disability living in Regional Australia, Tasmania, I have serious concerns over the type of aircraft presently in operation by Kendall in this state. You may be aware that recently Ansett withdrew services from Tasmania leaving Kendall to take over. Kendall has purchased new fifty seat planes from Canada, however my concerns with this particular aircraft are as follows: - It is my understanding that the aircraft cargo section is too small to accommodate anything other than the standard sized wheelchair, including motorised. This excludes large numbers of persons with disabilities and their families from accessing the aircraft, including myself. Due to the nature of their requirements not all persons with disability can use standard equipment. I am also given to understand that the motified wheelchairs used in transporting passengers with extra needs is impossible, or at best very difficult to wheel up the isle of the new aircraft. Mainly because of the fact the wheels of the chair rub on the seats of the plane. For me at least, the major concern in relation to this is the safety of passengers. Due to the nature of their disability and/or age there are considerable numbers of Australians at risk of broken bones. This would only add to their concerns. At the present time Ansett Airlines still maintain one an early morning flight out of Hobart (approximately 6.00 am) using their larger plane and one late night flight in. However for some people with disability and speaking from personal experience, due to personal care reasons, this means getting out of bed at 3.00 a.m. Which as anyone living with a disability would know is not possible on a continuing basis. 2 Effectively, this leaves large numbers of persons with disability in Tasmania under a One Airline Policy. Thereby leading to increased to isolation. I consider this unacceptable. Yours sincerely David B. Pearce CJ 5CJh CJH*hCJh $S89:CDM N 0 t & F h,t8^8^ & F h88^8$a$ 0 1 $a$ t '0P.
