Their is no negative bias as far as I am concerned in regards to enlistment of women. In fact I believe their is an over-emphasis on the enlistment and promotion of women due to the simple fact they are female - I feel this is unfair to males. 2. The defence force will always gravitate towards a male dominated environment and their will always be unequal proportions of males/females in high/low ranks. 3. Mentoring and networking frameworks are accessable to both female and males. In fact I had my career fast tracked due to identification by two male warrant officers. I feel this was because of my capability and track record, not just due to being a female. Unfortunately the emphasis on female promotions at the moment takes away from my achievement as I have seen females promoted over males who were much more deserving in my opinion. If I was a male, I'd feel discriminated against. 4. Everyone in defence has access to flexible work hours information and practices. Regarding awareness of actual processes etc, it is not hard to find and up to the individual to seek advice from divisional staff (who are generally very helpful) or find the information themselves. Whilst defence is here to help, it is not here to do all of the work for an individual wanting flexible working hours. Part B I feel harrassed by the Australian government who justify all of these enquiries due to the biased media reports. I have full confidence that matters of concern (and their are definately some) are treated in an appropriate manner by equity and diversity processes, command and when necessary transfer to civillian police for investigation. I constantly have to defend how well females get treated to civilians and quite frankly wish the government would stick up for defence. Media reporting may not allow this, but I would at least like the feeling that defence are sticking up for all personnel (males and females).
