Assist with assessment of incoming complaints undertake the investigation and conciliation of more complex/high profile complaints lodged under federal human rights and discrimination law, including the preparation of briefs and correspondence for the President or her Delegate and exercise statutory delegations on behalf of the President as required. Participate in the Investigation and Conciliation Sections management team, in preparation of statistics for internal and external reporting and in the review and development of the sections practices and procedures. Assist in the ongoing improvement of the Investigation and Conciliation Sections information management systems and public education material as required. Assist with the development and delivery of internal and external training programs/professional development activities as required. Liaise with key internal and external stakeholders and develop and deliver community education presentations about the law and the complaint process as required. Represent the section and the Commission at internal and external meetings, conferences and seminars as required. These duties are to be performed in accordance with the APS Code of Conduct and APS Values and Commission policies, including Workplace Diversity and Work Health and Safety. Under section 25 of the Public Service Act 1999 the Commission may determine the duties of an employee from time to time. SELECTION CRITERIA: Significant understanding of human rights issues and an extensive knowledge and understanding of federal human rights and discrimination law. Extensive experience in statutory investigation and a demonstrated ability to comprehend and distil significant issues from complex and often voluminous material and to exercise appropriate judgement. Extensive experience in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR), such as statutory conciliation, including an understanding of relevant ADR theory and skills. Demonstrated management skills including the ability to effectively manage a team in a high volume work environment and to appropriately prioritise competing interests. Highly developed communication skills (both oral and written) including the ability to communicate with a diverse range of people and to effectively represent the Commission. Ability to assist in the development and delivery of training programs /professional development activities and community education presentations. Proficient word processing and computer skills and familiarity with computer based data systems. Appropriate tertiary qualifications, formal training or equivalent or relevant community experience. Ability to travel as required.
