On Your Terms: Youth survey on consent and sex ed

黑料情报站s Rights
Two young people stand close together, smiling affectionately. A speech bubble says, youth survey on consent and sex ed. Bold text below reads, ON YOUR TERMS on a yellow background with a winking face graphic.

Under the direction of the National 黑料情报站鈥檚 Commissioner, the Commission has been funded by the Australian Government Department of Education to conduct a study on 14-18-year-old's experiences of, and attitudes towards, consent, respectful relationships and sex education in Australia.

The study also aims to examine young people's awareness and understanding of issues surrounding respectful relationships and consent.

The On Your Terms study forms part of the Australian Government鈥檚 agenda to support schools in educating children and young people about the importance of respectful relationships and positive consent, and shift attitudes and behaviours to prevent violence against women and children.

Findings from the study will establish a point in time understanding of young people鈥檚 experiences and help to inform improvements to the national curriculum and respectful relationships education policy in Australia.

We have consulted and engaged over 70 experts and organisations to develop the study. Our Youth Advisory Group, Technical Advisory Group and expert advisors, together with researchers who have conducted similar studies overseas, provided crucial input and feedback on the study's content.

Pilot

We鈥檙e testing the survey with a small, closed group of young people to ensure everything works smoothly and is easy to understand.

This will help us refine the survey experience before it officially launches in 2026. Feedback will be used to make changes to survey content and engagement materials.

Wallis social research will run the pilot from 29 September 2025.
